The Delectable Aroma Of South India: Kaju Uttapam

Uttapam is one of the most famous dishes from South India that is a must in the plate alongside idli, dosa, vada, sambar. There is a wide range of uttapams being distributed in the menu, ranging from paneer uttapam and vegetable uttapam. One of these amazing varieties is 'Kaju Uttapam'. The easy-to-prepare recipe is prepared with cashew, rice, onion, tomato, ginger paste, split black gram, coriander leaves and green chilli. It is a delicious dish that one could have for breakfast as well as for dinner and lunch.

Ingredients for Kaju Uttapam:
  • grated cashews - 12
  • Rice - 2 cup
  • well chopped tomato - 1 1/2 
  • split black gram - one cup 
  • refined oil as per requirement
  • red chilli powder as per requirement
  • finely chopped onion - one
  • ginger paste - one tsp
  • chopped green chilli - two
  • well chopped coriander leaves - 1 1/2 tbsp 
  • salt as per requirement

How to prepare Kaju Uttapam:

Step 1) To make this lip-smacking recipe, soak rice & split the black gram in a different vessel, for around four to five hours. Grind them in a soft paste. Take an air-tight container & combine the 2 of them together alongside some salt.

Step 2) Drop some chilli powder & combine finely. Close the container with a lid & leave it unattended for a few hours.

Step 3) Heat a vessel on a low flame with some oil. Drop the ginger paste in the mixture & spread a little amount of it on the vessel. Next, drop tomato, onion, cashew, coriander leaves and green chillies on it.

Step 4) Cook from each side by greasing with the oil. Don't cook it over the high flame, for the better taste cook over low flame. The Kaju Uttapam is ready. Have it with the coconut chutney.
